HMI Modular Concept: How much time and money will you save?

HMI Modular Concept: How much time and money will you save?

One of the most important aspects of lifting and access work is the human machine interface (HMI) and control systems. As these machines become more autonomous, it is important that machine operators have easy to use, versatile, reliable, robust, and ergonomic machine controls. As OEMs look to improve their machine controls, many factors go into deciding whether to change and improve them. OEMs are always looking to distinguish themselves from the competition, and a unique solution is usually created for each manufacturer when requested. While undoubtedly important, this does take a substantial amount of time, money, research, and development for the manufacturer. One unique aspect of the decision making is the development time and costs.
But what if there was a way to achieve these safety solutions for less? Less investment, less time, less research, and still achieve a robust and compliant safety performance level. These benefits are something that many niche access manufacturers, medium and large-sized companies are already experiencing with their partnership with MOBA.
One popular customization option is MOBA’s HMI modular concept, which allows OEMs to customize each HMI on their machines without having to invest in development cost. This not only saves the customer money on the development cost and but also reduces research time. With a modern CANbus interface, these HMI modules can be integrated in a variety of ways while reducing the need for cables, resulting in further savings for the OEM. Options include standard and lockable joysticks, multiple types of keypad and display modules, and versatile housing for the one or three modules. Each unit is also shock-proof and water resistant for even the most rugged of job sites. Each customer can incorporates their own distinct decal foils for further customization. These modules also allow for easy maintenance when things go awry on the job site. Instead of having to replace the entire HMI, OEMs can simply replace the module itself, again saving time and money. Making safety simple is what we love to do at MOBA. You can learn more about our systems here: https://moba-automation.com/crane-lifter

The IoT Revolution

The IoT Revolution

Substantial Changes of Construction Processes

oT – Internet of Things is nowadays on everyone’s lips as a term for communication technologies that allow the networking of physical and virtual objects. It is, as the Global Standards Initiative defined in 2013, the “infrastructure of our information societies” with their global connection. Of course, IoT also affects construction industry.

IoT is more or less a network of internet-based devices. Almost every machine or device with a sensor that transmits data via internet can be part of an IoT system.
IoT allows the collection, processing and storing of that data. It makes the integration of physical things into computer-based systems possible.

Source: https://www.pxfuel.com/en/search?q=logistics+technology
For construction industry that means that construction machines, material, devices and construction sites with all their sensors can be connected via internet. The benefit of collecting, analyzing and using this data is cost reduction, higher efficiency and an easier management. Explaining this in detail you should for example have a look on maintenance: Traditionally, each machine went through a regular check in specified time intervals. Of course that helped to maintain the operability and reduced downtimes. But it often also meant that parts that still worked were changed. Instead of this, with IoT nowadays a much more forward-looking maintenance is possible: The sensors monitor the actual condition of the machine and transmit the data via internet. That means that all deviations from the norm are displayed. This way maintenance intervals can be adapted to the sensor data and are only performed when really necessary. And the data helps avoiding failure times, which can become very expensive.

Another aspect is fuel efficiency: Fuel consumption and idle times are recorded by sensors and can be optimized via the recorded data. Asset tracking allows to track all machines or material so that the time planning of machinery and material can be adapted and waiting times reduced. Also theft gets immediately apparent as you can see the actual position of each machine. Furthermore, remote management of construction sites via IoT allows the site manager to control the working process on different, geographically distant construction sites at the same time. So he can check from anywhere, if everything works like it should and sees all the data from the construction site.

So when it comes to the equipping with IoT technologies, the effort and cost might on the first view look high, but if you offset the potential savings, it looks really attractive and can help to save a lot of money. And it the future, no construction site or any other part of our industry and society might get along without IoT.

The MOBA Ignition box IS-03 was designed to check the ignition and control the temperature at construction machines. The main application field is to control the temperature at the paver screed on a gas flame control for paver screed heater.
But you can use this box also for other application. Such as the machine OEM MADROG http://www.madrog.pl/en/
The MADROG Company, was established and started its activity in the production, service and repairs of the road machinery in 1985. They offer a wide sequence of modern road machines. Most of them are computer controlled which is vital for the both machine control and repair quality. They produce a wide range of machines designed to work with the use of bitumen emulsion like sprinklers, patchers and “kombains” for partial repair of the road surface, for example, as well as other machines like grit spreaders, asphalt boilers, multifunctional machines. For these machines is it necessary to have an precise and reliable ignition box which control the gas flame for to heat up the bitumen material to the right temperature.

The MOBA Ignition box IS-03 has following function:

• The actual temperature of the screed will be detected with a temperature sensor.
• If the measured temperature should be lower than the setpoint value, the ignition box IS-03 will open the gas valve and ignite for 10 seconds. The combustion of the gas mixture will be detected by the spark plug.
• In this case the gas valve will stay open and the screed / device will heat up until reach the set value. If the flame goes out during the operation ignition starts again for 10 seconds, until the desired temperature is reached, the gas valve will shut off.
• If no flame was recognized the gas valve will shut off and an alarm output will be activated.
• To repeat the ignition procedure after an alarm interruption, switch off power voltage and start again via switching on the voltage.

New G-Slope Sensor MGS-0150 for Smooth Asphalt Paving

New G-Slope Sensor MGS-0150 for Smooth Asphalt Paving

Paving roundabouts, docking the truck to the paver, fast steering movements or moving the screed’s extending units were so far challenging for slope sensors. Because a conventional slope sensor can wrongly interpret acceleration as slope and then adjust the paver screed accordingly. For the paving result that means that unevenness in the asphalt can occur.

With MOBA’s new G-Slope Sensor MGS-0150, these are no more obstacles like these for paving a smooth asphalt layer. Because with this new sensor, that was especially developed for the use on asphalt pavers, neither impacts nor lateral acceleration have any influence on levelling during paving. With the integrated gyroscope, the sensor is able to recognize these impacts and there is no wrong adjustment of the levelling system. This way, the new sensor helps to achieve smoother results in asphalt paving.

The advantages of the G-Slope Sensor compared with a conventional slope sensor are:

– more stable measured value
– complete elimination of acceleration impacts when the screed width is changed
– no deviation of measured values by changing the screed width or other similar impacts

In all realistic application situations, the new G-Slope-Sensor proved its advantages as it leads to better paving results.

Compared to conventional slope sensors an additional gyroscope is implemented in this new sensor. The sensor is easy to mount, but it is important that is fixed on the paver on a rigid mounting without rubber buffers.

Of course the MGS-0150 sensor corresponds to MOBA’s quality standards, that means it is reliable and precise. With its robust housing is protected against environmental influences like rain or dust and corresponds to protection class IP67.

LOGISTIC MACHINERY a part of TDC Group New Dealer for MOBA earthmoving systems in Ukraine

Since 2019, the TDC group of companies has become an official dealer of MOBA Mobile Automation AG Earthmoving and mobile weighing products.

Several projects have been implemented for the installation of a levelling system on motor graders.

“Since road construction is a complex process that involves a wide fleet of equipment: asphalt pavers, road milling machines, excavators (with various attachments), bulldozers and graders, drilling and piling equipment, loaders, the work of each piece of equipment simply needs to be automated, which will increase it efficiency several times. MOBA has been dealing with this issue for almost 50 years” mean Vladimir Ivanov from Logistic Machinery a part of the group TDC. (Sales Manager Erik Geis from MOBA on the left and on the right Sales Manager Vladimir Ivanov from Logistic Machinery)

The TDC group of companies offers installation and maintenance of the MOBA GS-506 (2D) universal leveling system. This system is designed for graders and bulldozers. It greatly simplifies the excavation and grading work during the construction of the road base. The system eliminates downtime while waiting for the surveyor’s team, speeding up the workflow.

There are several options for completing the GS-506:

1. Basic system.

This semi-automatic configuration provides control of blade cross slope. Height adjustment takes place manually using levers. An excellent starting point for rough excavation work on a bulldozer. It also dramatically speeds up traditional “stakes” grading operations as the operator controls the height from one side of the blade. The system requires a minimum of time to retrain the operator and does not change the usual procedure for specialists.

2. Ultrasonic system.

The basic system is complemented by the Sonic-Ski ultrasonic sensor. This configuration of the MOBA GS-506 is fully automatic: Automatic control of cross slope, blade height and blade hold are three functions that provide the operator with the comfort of operating the machine. He does not need the commands of the surveyor (does not stand idle), is concentrated on work, performs grading work, especially “clean passes” much faster. It also reduces the requirements for the professional qualities of the operator. Ultrasound system — this is the most versatile option, which is suitable for the construction of roads and square objects. The support surface can be a stretched line, a road edge, or an already prepared surface (especially when the operator makes a parallel pass). This configuration can be installed on a grader and a bulldozer, but is more relevant for a grader.

3. Laser system.

The basic system is complemented by a laser plane builder and a laser receiver on the mast. This configuration of the system is the most accurate, in addition, it allows you to freely move around the construction site, however, a laser plane is used as a reference surface, respectively, the grader can only copy the plane, and this is clearly not enough for the construction of a road with a complex longitudinal profile. The system is intended for the construction of site facilities: shopping centres, stadiums, parking lots.

Installing even the simplest basic MOBA GS-506 system on a grader / bulldozer will increase the productivity of excavation and grading operations, especially at the stage of final “finishing passes” significant.

By installing the MOBA GS-506 system on a grader / bulldozer, the road construction company will receive the following benefits:

– increasing the pace of work and labor productivity;

– high accuracy and quality of work and, as a result, a decrease in the likelihood of unplanned expenses associated with correcting and reworking work.

– independent workflow – the ability to build an object in a shorter time frame.

– work comfort – reducing the requirements for the operator’s professional skills, increasing his productivity and increasing motivation.

– the ability to upgrade and modify in 3D – the system recognizes the type of connected sensor.

– improving the reputation of the company using advanced construction technologies in its work.

Cloud connectivity – integrated into the development process

The keywords cloud connection or cloud connectivity are well known, everyone is talking about them. In the future, more and more MOBA systems will have a cloud connection, probably all in the medium term. Via the MOBA Cloud, users have a web-based access to their machines and vehicles, with a central data management and access to configuration and protocols.

In certain market segments, almost all systems (sensors, machines, vehicles) have a cloud connection, or this is already inherent in the system. The technical preconditions and structures for the cloud connection have been in place for a long time. They can be used and adapted for further or future systems.

A possible cloud connection should already be considered during the product development process. For this purpose, many questions have to be asked and agreements have to be made, during the specification.

By including all relevant questions in the draft of the requirements specification, it should be ensured, that all relevant points for specification and handling of the cloud connection are clarified.

Corresponding tasks in the project plan ensures the complete and exact implementation.

In addition, a now available guide assists the realization of development projects with cloud connection. It explains individual aspects of this topic and lists the existing documentation for the MOBA cloud connection. A glossary explains the many technical terms relating to the subject.
