Compaction system in the Test: MCA 500 vs. Conventional Methods

Compaction system in the Test: MCA 500 vs. Conventional Methods

Our team from MOBA INDIA has tested conventional compacting against compacting with MOBA MCA 500 compaction system with their customer L&T RATLAM MPEP PKG 22.
Here is what they found out:

Conventional Compacting would have led to 4-8 passes on average. Based on the system feedback – compaction was already achieved after 3-4 passes.

The report shows an efficiency increase of over 40% – We are very proud of this result.

In addition, the field density test in the laboratory confirmed a desired density at 98,2 % with MCA 500 system.

We deliver better quality in less time by saving a lot of operating costs!

In compaction, increasing the number of passes does not mean increasing the density.

In fact, over compacting can lead to a decrease in density and stiffness.

For asphalt compaction, one also needs to consider the correct temperature to avoid damage to the fresh pavement.

Return on Investment

Unlike in the example above, let us assume a conservative efficiency increase of ONLY 20% and look at the following example of Return on Investment.

We have based our example on the following assumptions:

  • Compaction machine life span: 5 years with 10.000 working hours
  • Machine price: 80.000 USD
  • Interest rate: 5%
  • Efficiency increase 20%
  • The average cost of MCA 500: 5000$
  • Cost of Operator (global average): 8,36 USD

We can show that our Point of Break-even is achieved in less than one year (1000 machine hours) and our ROI may exceed 50000$ over a machine lifetime.

MCA 1500 Trial Test in Kalimantan, Indonesia

MCA 1500 Trial Test in Kalimantan, Indonesia

The project to relocate Jakarta to Kalimantan aims to address the challenges posed by Jakarta’s sinking and overcrowding. It involves moving the capital city of Indonesia from Jakarta on the island of Java to a new location in Kalimantan, Borneo. The project includes constructing a new capital city with modern infrastructure, government buildings, and housing. The relocation aims to alleviate Jakarta’s congestion, reduce environmental issues, and distribute economic development more evenly across the country. It is a massive undertaking with the goal of creating a sustainable and resilient capital for Indonesia’s future.
MOBA’s Compaction Assistant Solution, MCA 1500 was recently demonstrated by our Distributor PT Multi Traktor at a prestigious project site in Kalimantan to show that it will be able to solve customer’s pain points and to fulfill their requirements for an upcoming prestigious project.
In their previous road construction projects, the customer faced a lot of quality issues due to under and over compaction of soil. Therefore, the customer wants to incorporate an intelligent compaction solution to confirm that each soil layers are well compacted. Additionally, they wanted the process of compaction to be documented to ensure that soil compaction works are done as per the required specifications. With MOBA’s Intelligent Compaction Value (ICV) which compares favorably with soil density results via sand cone test, compaction during the trial test could be optimized as our system indicates on its display with green signal when the soil is compacted.

The contractor will potentially have cost savings of up to 40% in compactor run time, fuel savings and manpower. This indirectly will help to solve Customer’s other requirement, which is to complete the project in shortest time possible.

The operator of the compactor also gave positive feedbacks on MCA 1500 that the system is quite user-friendly and easy to handle. In all, MOBA’s compaction assistant will provide a win-win situation for road owners and contractors. Additionally, data from compaction work done at site could also be sent to MOBA Cloud and visualized as per Customer’s request with reporting functionality.

MOBA Land Leveling system in EQUESTRIAN CLUB

MOBA Land Leveling system in EQUESTRIAN CLUB, UAE

One of the top companies in Sharjah, UAE is relying on the MOBA Land Leveling System for tractors to prepare the perfect terrain before each horse show. The event happens twice a year. Every show has its unique conditions that affect the horse and the rider’s performance, and one major factor is the smoothness of the ground. Both not properly leveled and sticky ground may reduce the horse’s mobility.

A leveled racetrack for horses offers several benefits. Firstly, it provides a consistent and fair surface for all participating horses, reducing the likelihood of accidents or injuries caused by uneven terrain. Secondly, a leveled track ensures that the race is determined by the horses’ skill and speed rather than external factors such as track conditions. This promotes a more level playing field and enhances the integrity of the sport. Additionally, a leveled track allows trainers and jockeys to accurately assess and improve the performance of their horses over time. Lastly, it can contribute to better record keeping and statistical analysis, enabling more precise evaluation of horse performance and breeding potential.
After each use, our customer keeps on praising both the robustness and the accuracy of the MOBA Laser Matic. Extremely easy to operate, as the operator turns on the tractor and drives the field. The speed in controlling the tractor’s grader prevents the level correction rework.

Jack Healy operates his own business with currently 1 Excavator in Victoria, Australia. Jack has just bought his first MOBA 3D Excavator System and he agreed to a little interview with Alexander Wahlmann –  Sales and Business Development APAC.

Alexander Wahlmann: How did you find the sales process with MOBA Australia?

Jack Healy: Great and effective. The guys from MOBA Australia were very helpful and customer orientated. The system was in stock and no lead time before the installation.

Alexander Wahlmann: What do your typical projects look like?

Jack Healy: Trenching, Digging Foundations, Preparing land plots, parking lots, etc.

Alexander Wahlmann: Why did you choose MOBA?

Jack Healy: To be honest, the opposition was not able to confirm availability in time when the system was needed. While looking at other options, we found MOBA online and especially liked the good customer reviews and friendly straight-forward service.

Alexander Wahlmann: What is it that you most like about the MOBA 3D system?

Jack Healy: Thanks to the MOBA 3D system, I can perform many tasks independently that prior to the automation was not possible. No more Stacking & waiting for the surveyor to continue work. I get the job done in 1/2 the time. My customer also recognizes the professionality of an excavator equipped with a 3D automation system.

Alexander Wahlmann: Would you recommend MOBA 3D systems to other operators like yourself?

Jack Healy: Definitely, and I have done this multiple times already.

We thank Jack very much for his time and wish him succesfull digging operations for the future!!

Meet Nick from DAVEY GRINTER CIVIL CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD. Nick and his wife operate their own family business with currently 6 Excavators and their Team of 6 people in Victoria, Australia. Nick Has just bought his second MOBA 3D Excavator System and he agreed to a little interview with Alexander Wahlmann, Sales and Business Development APAC.

Alexander Wahlmann: How did you find the sales process with MOBA Australia?

Nick Davey: Great and very effective. One week from the first call to final installation of the system.

Alexander Wahlmann: What do your typical projects look like?

Nick Davey: Digging Foundations, Trenching, Preparing land plots, Subdivision, basically a bit of everything.

Alexander Wahlmann: Why did you choose MOBA?

Nick Davey: I was looking for a very customer orientated system provider that puts a high value on Service and Support. I then got recommended MOBA by a close friend with good experience.

Alexander Wahlmann: Did you look at other brands?

Nick Davey: Yes, but it seems that customers like us, family-owned small-medium businesses, are less interesting for MOBA competitors because we only operate on a relatively small scale.

Alexander Wahlmann: Any advice to small-medium size contractors looking to make the investment into 3D but scared about ROI?

Nick Davey:  The day you start working with the system you immediately save time and money. No more leaving the cabin and no need for additional surveying work. By working independently one gets much more digging done in a day. And you only dig once, no re-digging with a MOBA XSite 3D system. Your clientele also recognizes the difference of Quality when you turn up with a proper 3D system for the job.

Alexander Wahlmann: Finally, how do would you describe the last couple of years of growing your own independent successful business?

Nick Davey: It has been a bumpy road but luckily, I have the diggers to keep smoothing the path.

Alexander Wahlmann: Greatest comment ever from a digger operator 🙂

The future of remote support

The future of remote support

The global Corona pandemic has catalyzed remote support solutions worldwide. The sudden disruption of travel and restriction of movement even in close surroundings has triggered companies to operate remotely and develop new techniques to overcome non-contact-based support with their clients. Remote Software support is already very common and has been used long before the latest pandemic. However remote support for physical installation, calibration work and troubleshooting are yet less exploited.

MOBA wants to ensure state of the art customer service hence we exploit the option of using Video glasses next to smartphone support to guarantee fast support without restriction on location time zones.

Video glasses have not yet made their way to the private consumer rather being a business tool for commercial ventures. From being able to view a task through the eyes of a local technician from anywhere in the world to the option of displaying augmented realty in the view of the local “avatar” – video glasses offer divers option to revolutionize the future of remote support.

Although video glasses and connected software options may not have yet the full capabilities that ensure smooth remote support, it is just a matter of time until this technology conquers businesses that demand global service & support. MOBA is taking part in this new feature by testing and evaluating the most effective ways and solutions that are offered by the video glass market to ensure our full evolvement of our digital potential.

Airport Project in Morowali – Sulawesi, Indonesia

Airport Project in Morowali - Sulawesi, Indonesia

The Vantage Group successfully installed 2 sets of MOBA Big Sonic Skis for an Airport Project in Morowali – Sulawesi.

The challenge was not only the logistics, but also the intense training on product handling as well as hot-to-hot paving. The runway is more than 1,900 meters long and needs to have 0.0% inclination in longitudinal direction and 1.5% in cross section. The MOBA Big Sonic Ski is the perfect choice to achieve these challenging targets.
President Joko Widodo announced that he will be the first person to land on this strategic airport, therefore, the expectations and demand for quality is extraordinarily high.

"The use of Big Sonic Ski enabled us to concentrate on the slope and cross slope sections rather than having to focus on smoothness and leveling. As usual, working with Big Sonic Ski, saves time, costs and the outcome of the asphalt layer speaks for itself."

MOBA Drilling 3D System installed in Germany

MOBA Drilling 3D System installed in Germany

We are proud to announce that we have successfully installed the first MOBA XSite APP drilling system. This system is a combination of MDS 2000 (2D) and Xsite APP (3D).A random position has been recorded on Test Day 1 and saved to the System. The position has been recovered on Test Day 2 with no problem. The MOBA development and end customer are very satisfied with the result.

THE TEST

The team chose a random starting point with the drilling machine and marked this point in the system and on the actual ground. To test the system abilities, the machine and all moving parts had to alter their position. On day two, the team was able to only use XSite APP to find the same point on the ground with only minimal and acceptable deviation.

The picture below shows Mister Hiltenkamp (product manager of MOBA Drilling) and Ville Junno (Service manager from NOVATRON) after the successful installation.

Currently MOBA is one of only few manufacturer that offer a 3D Drilling system where the antennas are not suited on the drill head but on the back of the machine. This way, the hazard of damage and accuracy problem due to vibration are reduced to a minimum. In addition, the GPS signal is accurate even if the drill bit is tilted.

We are proud to announce that any customer with existing MOBA MDS 2000 system can updgarde to Xsite APP with no issues. Again, MOBA has managed to introduce another system that works with just 2D but is easily upgradable to 3D. Please see below a first screenshot of the XSite App:
